Mrs Lyon’s Tea Room
is the vision of
Elaine Lyon from Standish, Wigan.
In 2014, at 28 years of age, rather than waiting for ‘One Day’ to come, Elaine took the risk of giving up her 10 year career in the beauty industry, in order to pursue her dream of opening a tea room serving her home-baked cakes and affordable, ‘available any time’ traditional afternoon teas on mismatched vintage china.
Lyon is Elaine’s married name – admittedly a good omen for someone with the dream of opening a tearoom! It would have been a shame not to use it. It’s surprising how many customers think that Mrs Lyon is a fictitious character, and we’re playing on the past success of the 20th century
J.T. Lyons’ Corner Houses.
After hitches with both finding the right property in the village and acquiring planning permission, in just four months, an ex-bank in Standish was transformed into
Mrs Lyon’s Tea Room.
One month after opening, Elaine's sister Vickie - also a keen baker (and self-confessed control freak!), made the bold decision to give up her career as a make-up artist and join her in the Tea Room.
Trading since 6 September 2014, Mrs Lyon’s Tea Room has exceeded their expectations by far. The aim of the chintzy Tea Room is always to provide quality produce, served in a friendly, happy and bright tea-room setting.
Afternoon Tea is served any time, along with home-baked cakes & scones, breakfast, lunch, 18 varieties of loose-leaf tea and quality coffee.
It's hard to describe regular customers to the Tea Room. They include couples young and old, families with young children, teenagers and business people.
Not just for ladies who lunch then!
The opening of a new bakery unit in June 2016 will give the girls the opportunity to supply even more celebration cakes, family-sized cakes and personalised cupcakes made freshly to order.
In August 2017, the Tea Room counter was extended in response to the demand for 'CAKEAWAY'!
